Ask SAM: Getting rid of a timeshare

July 6th, 2021 by admin

Question: Two years ago, my husband and I purchased a resort condominium package. We would like to sell our package. We have retired earlier than expected and do not want the burden any longer. ~ J.R.

Answer: “If you Google ‘selling a timeshare,’ the names of some websites pop up, which may help,” local attorney Mike Wells said in an email response. “I imagine it is almost always a buyers’ market, so getting out of the monthly cash drain may be worth considering over even a very lowball offer. I have had over the years probably 75 contacts from people with questions about selling a timeshare, but none from someone who wants to buy one, so that should tell us something.”

He said that you may want to contact a Realtor or real-estate lawyer to see if they can help.
